    -Successful in improving productivity at AK STEEL as the Technical Manager of the steel shop Currently AK steel’s Middletown plant produces 42 heats (on average) with two BOF vessels, one 2-strand caster, one CASOB and one RHOB/KTB Degasser.  The focus has been essentially on increasing vessel availability, increasing vessel volume, improving refractory maintenance, and spraying of the vessels. Considerable efforts were put in step lance practices and optimizing the charge model so as to decreasing the Hot Metal to Scrap ratios to 75 and extending the Hotmetal availability.

    -Recently completed a project at Bethlehem steel to simplify processing of heats through the 3-Vessel BOF shop. Helped Bethlehem save considerable expense in alloy consumption and the use of slag conditioning. Guided Bethlehem to decrease tap temperatures and decrease the tap oxygen levels. The path taken at Bethlehem is mainly to remove double processing of heats, reducing heating and cooling requirements, reducing tap temperatures, reducing tap oxygen values. One of the most useful outcomes of the project is a Ladle Thermal Model, which predicts thermal losses as the ladle is processed through the shop.
